A message from our esteemed commander-in-chief:
Hello guys,
The next ACM meeting will be Thursday (2/12) at 5:30pm in SEO 1000.
Professor Mitchell Theys will discuss GPU programming. Inside your
computer there’s a lot more processing power than you’re using. The
graphics card processor has advanced to the point where, for many
applications, it is far faster than your CPU. Come to the talk and
learn how to take advantage of your GPU and learn about some of the
newest research going into programming for it.
There will be food, drink, and merriment, as usual.
Gary Turovsky
ACM President
I, Sean, have not been updating the website with the understanding that a new one was to be created, but until such a time, I shall continue to keep you posted on what’s going on.
For those of you who missed it, we had a general meeting 2 weeks ago about user interface design, and last weekend was our LAN Party, both of which were met with great merriment. Congratulations to those of you who won prizes at the LAN Party.
Be sure to come to this week’s general meeting, as Professor Theys is a fine speaker, and the GPU is a far underutilized resource. SIG Game will be meeting next Tuesday, and SIG Code has a meeting this Thursday, after the meeting. If you’ve got any more ideas on modules, or perhaps you’re stuck somewhere, stop by after the meeting and we’ll talk about plans for the coming week.
Also keep in mind, this Friday, SIG Fun is putting on the movie Tron. Join us that evening (starting time isn’t set in stone yet) for entertainment and camaraderie.
Any further issues, suggestions, comments, or challenges, come on by the ACM office, still hosted at 2262 SEL, or send an e-mail to one of the officers.
Signing off for now, hopefully a new website is up before I post again, Sean Deitz - sdeitz2 AT uic DoT edu
