Hey guys, 

SIG Sysadmin will be meeting at the normal time, 5:30PM, at the normal
place, the ACM Office, tomorrow for the weekly meeting. 

As a reminder from last week, please look over the projects page on the
ACM Wiki [1]and the SIG info on the ACM site [2] and come to the meeting
with either a project you would like to take part in or one you would
like to start. At last week's meeting we ended up talking a lot about
the monitor wall project, what still needs to be done, and rationals so
also don't forget to check out where projects may be at on the ACM
Kanboard. [3] The returning members were encouraged last meeting to try
and get some discussions started on the SIG mailing list and
unfortunately there were no new sign ups to the list (hopefully because
everyone was just discussing systems projects in person :D ). 

People already attached to projects, please come to the meeting with a
basic idea of a current task list so we can make some progress on the
projects during the meetings. 

Returning members that have an idea for a discussion topic they would
like to present on or see presented on, please pass on those suggestions
as we will otherwise be focused on project work and project updates at
the meetings. Currently there is a suggestion for a talk about Pen.
Testing which I am currently looking into as we have not had a formal
discussion on the topic in the past. 

Hopefully I didn't forget anything in the wall of text and see you all
tomorrow,

This is just a quick reminder to let you know that a LUG 3D print meetup is
this *Friday, November 6, 2015 at 4PM *in the ACM/LUG Office area (SELE
2264).

Last time, we introduced you to the basics of 3D printing (Plastics, PLA,
ABS, basics ideas of how the printer prints models, model slicing, etc.).
This time, we'll be going over basics for 3D modeling.  Come with your
ideas to build!  If you have a laptop, bring them so that you can get more
familiar with some 3d modeling software. If you don't have a laptop, that's
okay too! We have a few archlinux workstations that you can use as well!

We will discuss our two short end of the semester projects at the meeting
tomorrow:

1. the monitor wall is now working we might be able to try using the dance
mat
to control it at a future meeting soon! (as discussed and approved as a SIG
project earlier this term)

2. Small UI group programming project, NO PRIOR PROGRAMMING
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED). Work will start after the meeting tomorrow
where input will be accepted as to the last few requirements/parameters
of this several week (thats all we have left this term!) project.
Check the acm web site after tommorrow's meeting for the full project
description and how to contribute (remotely if necessary or desired
especially  for those who can't make the current meeting time)

Weekly reminder of the SIG Sysadmin meeting today at 5:30PM in the ACM
Office. 

_Today:_ After some project updates and misc. announcements, we will be
doing a demo session showing the creation of a Server VM on the ACM
network and how it is integrated with base services such as
LDAP/Kerberos authentication. Since there are projects in place or in
progress that are specifically meant to improve parts of this process,
the rational of those will be brought up and elaborated on when
relevant. 

_Being Planned For Further Out:_ 

Wireshark/NMap Demo 

Pen. Testing, using this site [1] as a starting point for ideas. Email
the SIG Mailing list if interested. 

As always, keep up the project work, look at and update the task board
(there are still tasks to create as well as finish), [2] check out what

and, most importantly, communicate with other members via the SIG
mailing list, IRC, and in person if you have any question.

Hey Guys, 

Quick meeting reminder for SIG SysAdmin. We will be having a free form
agenda for this meeting after a discussion with those who have been
continuing with the SIG as to how they would like to continue into the
Spring as well as possible group work during the Winter Break when we
can possibly set aside time to work on some of the larger tasks on the
backlog of things to do. So far I have already gotten one request to
talk a bit more about some of the steps of installing Arch Linux so come
ready with whatever questions that have been building up and hopefully
we will be able to cover most of them. Don't forget to look over and
update the ACM wiki, SIG web page, and ACM Kanboard site.

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!

This is a reminder that the final Flourish! Planning Meeting of
November will be on *Monday, November 30, 2015 at 5:30PM* in the ACM/LUG
student space.  The next meeting most likely sometime in January after the
start of the new semester. (Or perhaps during break depending on the
response from volunteers at the meeting on Monday.  More information will
be send out later.)

This meeting is located in the Science and Engineering Laboratories East
(SELE) 2264, which is located on the corner of Halsted & Taylor St,
Chicago, IL.

This will probably be the last email where I will be copying to all other
emails, so make sure you are definitely subscribed to the Flourish!
Planning Mailing list if you wish to continue receiving emails
about Flourish! Planning Updates.

For those of you that don't know, Flourish! is an annual student-led open
source conference held here at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  It
is a great conference to introduce and explore the possibilities of
Free-Libre Open-Source Software(FLOSS).  All are welcome to help plan for
this awesome conference! It is never too late to get involved!

As most students are aware, Final examinations are quickly approaching! If
you need to study, please do so!  As always, I will post meeting minutes on
the Flourish! Wiki.   If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to
email me, volunteer at flourishconf.com, or the Flourish! planning listserv if
you would like to ask the group.

Hello everyone!

Need to relax after finals?  Come to the next ACM LAN Party this Saturday,
December 12th! Put on your PJs and bring your PC, console, board, or card
games for a night of friends and fun!

Details:

What's a LAN party: A get together for gamers with fun, friends, and an
assortment of board, card, and video games.

What to bring: Your gaming machine(s), controllers, other accessories, and
any games you would like to play (including board and card games). The ACM
WILL NOT provide gaming machines!  Comfortable and APPROPRIATE pajamas are
encouraged, but not required.

When: Saturday, December 12th.


Time: Set-up begins at 3:30pm, first game begins at 4:30pm


Cost: This event is completely free

Who: Anyone can come, including non ACM members and alumni. Those not
affiliated with UIC can also come, but must be accompanied at all times
with someone who is UIC affiliated.

Games: Play whatever you want with whoever you want whenever you want.
However, certain games will have featured times to encourage people to play
together.  The schedule is as follows:

   -

   Team Fortress 2 - 4:30 PM
   -

   League of Legends - 6:00 PM
   -

   The Ship: Murder Party - 7:30 PM
   -

   Civilization V - 9:00 PM
