There are a multitude of tech talks from various speakers. The UIC ACM leaves as a group and it is very educational, informative, and fun. This year's conference will be the first weekend of October (October 1st - 4th). You can check out their website here . *How do I sign up to attend Reflections | Projections with the UIC ACM* Fill out this Google form: ? Reflections Projections 2015 ? Note: YOU MUST BE AN ACM MEMBER TO ATTEND! *How will I get to the conference? Will I be driving to the conference?* A few of our wonderful members have volunteered to drive. Departure time is dependant on drivers. Driver and vehicle information are still TBD. Drivers will be notified mid-September, including information on vehicles and compensation. Cars will be assigned and filled based on what time the driver would like to depart (12pm - approximately 6:00pm). *Hotels* We finally have our hotel situation figured out. We will be staying at the following hotel: Knights Inn 612 Killarny St. Urbana IL 61801-1013 Website: http://www.knightsinn.com/hotels/illinois/urbana/knights-inn-urbana/hotel-overview Yes, there is a pool and free Wi-Fi, coffee, and breakfast. There are two queen sized beds per room. Check in begins at 2:00pm and check out is at 11:00am. We have the rooms booked for Friday, October 2nd - Sunday, October 4th. *Roommates* We will be putting four people to a room. If you already have a group of four established, please e-mail officers at acm.cs.uic.edu with a subject header "RP Roommates," include all roommates names (including your own) in the e-mail body, and cc all of said roommates. The club plans to meet Saturday mornings (9-11) but we can adjust our times to meet the availability of the volunteer. Unfortunately, there is no funding available, but there is lots of good karma available! If funds do appear, I will gladly pay for her time. (This would be a good fit for a university that provides community support via their work study program; especially for CS and related majors). The ideal person will not only be passionate about computer science, but will also enjoy working with teenage girls. Qualifications include proficiency in a back-end programming language and intermediate skills in data structures and algorithms. This could be a student (undergraduate or grad), teacher, or industry professional. Training, support for classroom management and administrative duties, and curriculum will be provided. Sounds like anyone you know? Is it YOU? If so, contact me via email or phone. (Feel free to share this request widely.) If you haven't signed up yet, you can do so here (though sign-up is not required, it is highly recommended for gaming and food purposes). A few updates from the previous e-mail based on people's responses: - I've decided to move the food time to 3:30. That way people will have time to come in, set-up, and not get super hungry in the mean-time. That will also leave opportunity for people to get food later in the evening when people get hungry again. Please note that the department has approved only the eating of pizza in the CS space (including the ACM office) for this event. Drinks TBD, but not likely. - There will be Risk and Cards Against Humanity (no expansion packs, unless someone wants to bring them) brought to you by yours truly. If you would like to bring any other board games, please bring them yourselves. For those who have recently signed up for the listserv and did not here about the LAN party, below the dotted line is all of the information from the previous e-mail. Cheers. If you're interested in participating in this year's ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Competition), send me an email. Sign up by Friday and I can get you the problems for this year's practice competition, which will be occuring on October 3rd. The email to reply to is sdeitz2 at uic.edu. This is the weekend of Reflections|Projections so we'll take a look at the problems, but won't be competing seriously. We can talk about solutions next week on Thursday at 5 pm in ACM. The actual competition is on November 7th, so if you've got that day open and you'd like a challenge, sign up for the experience.
