-====== setup ======
-the install disk for the apple workstations is in the safe

-===== install =====
-To boot from the install disk: \\
-first put the disk in the drive \\
-hold option while the computer is booting. \\
-select the "boot from OS X install" and click the arrow pointing right (this option may  take a long time to be available) \\
-\\
-use the entire harddrive, but erase it first. \\
-uses the "apple + q" trick to bypass the registration screen, \\
-use the username "macadmin" \\
-===== software =====
-A copy of the software installed on the machines is sitting in macadmins public folder on workstation3.local.
-It is split into 3 categories: copy to install, mount and copy, and annoying installs.
-
-in annoying installs: xcode must be installed before macports, and mumble will want you to logout
-
-===== Config guest user =====
-In system Preferences >> Accounts:
-enable the guest account
-disable automatic login
-===== Alternative setup =====
-The mac named "river" has had AD logon enabled on it.  ACM users can use there AD account on this machine.
-I was working on shared home directories with ACM, but the problem I ran into is the UID's are not consistant.  The ACM server uses likewise to handle AD auth, and likewise uses it own hasing method to generate uid's.  Apple uses a different hashing method.  Apple has the option to use the UID from another field,  so I enabled unix services for AD on the AD server.  Likewise does not seem to have a similar option.  In the next server upgrade, I am going to recomend not using likewise, and using the AD server as a standard LDAP server for authentication and authorization.
-====== Other machines ======
-There are 3 G4 mac workstations available for use in the acm office.
-Another G4 is used to host the library server.  It currently displays a pictures slide-show. 3 more G4 mac machines are now set up in the ACM office for use.
