 If you already have a Linux install on a hard drive partition or virtual machine that you would like to use for other task then you are done with this one. Otherwise the task is to install some distribution of Linux on a machine that can be viewed to check completion, whether remotely or in person. This Linux install can either be on a physical hard disk or as a virtual machine in another OS or even within an existing Linux OS, if desired. Ubuntu is the usual starting point for newbies, and the point of this task is to use their documentation as a guide to finish, since the SIG itself needs self motivated people to survive.
