Meeting Thurs 5:30 SEO 1000 - Nvidia Engineers Presenting

There will an ACM general meeting this Thursday at 5:30pm in SEO 1000. There will be a presentation by 2 engineers from Nvidia talking about CUDA. Specifically, how to use and integrate the technology effectively into business technologies while avoiding the pitfalls of trying to integrate it where it doesn't belong. As usual, food and drink will be provided.

ACM LAN Party

Hey everyone!

The next LAN party is going to be the weekend of the 24th to 25th of September. We are anticipating the following large events: Starcraft 2, Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2. We will also be playing the following smaller events: Soldat, Track Mania, Rock Band, and Alien Swarm. If you still have suggestions on games to play (free or not) please send suggestions to jbarro3@uic.edu and tom@fatesunited.com. If you want a tournament to exist for a game please find someone to create the bracket and run the tournament. If you just want to have a group of people play a game that is also fine.

Prices will be 5 dollars if you register in advance, on acmlanparty.com or 10 dollars at the door. We hope to see you there!

ACM General Meeting - 09/15/2011 UPDATE

Due to speaker conflicts, the ACM meeting on 09/15/2011 will not be presenting Orbitz Worldwide. We will be rescheduling that meeting to sometime in November. Instead, we will have a meeting regarding Reflections Projections logistics and other ACM-related items.

The meeting will be held in SEL-2254 (ICL), 5:30 - 7:00 PM on September 15,2011. Please come if you are interested in Reflections Projections. More information about Reflections Projections can be found on the Reflections Projections website:

SIG-Build Meeting - 9/8/11 - 5:00pm

The hardware group SIG-Build is having its first meeting this Thursday 9/8/11 in SEL 2264 at 5:00pm, which is the room right next to the ACM office. This event can be found on our calendar located at acm.cs.uic.edu/calendar. We will be discussing the state of our projects and our goals for the semester. We will also be using this a a way to gauge the knowledge base of those interested so we know where to start with teaching new members about our projects and computer hardware in general. That being said, those of all knowledge backgrounds are welcome. You can view our project this on our page on the acm website, acm.cs.uic.edu/sigbuild. SIG Game meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 in 2260 SEL right by the ACM hangout lounge.

If you want to commit full time or just stop on by occasionally to check out our progress that's cool with me.

We already have a game idea under way and hoping to get down to it as soon as possible.

I appreciate everyone for coming to the SIG Fair today and it was a great turnout. If you would like to join any SIGs, please do so by contacting the appropriate SIG leader. The SIGs that presented today were:

In addition, we will be having our first general meeting next Thursday. We will have a guest speaker, Tom Verbiscer, Cloud Architect at Alcatel Lucent and former ACM @ UIC president (1999). He will be presenting "The Effect of Cloud on Software." As always, we will provide food & drink and we hope that this interesting presentation will help to increase your awareness in cloud computing.

Meeting Thursday August 25 - SIG Fair - SEO 1000 - 5:30pm

ACM will be having a meeting this Thursday to introduce our SIGs to all incoming students and to help gain interest in your SIG.

Please come to the meeting to learn about all the SIGs that ACM has to offer. Learn a new skill, gain some experience in programming, and more!
